My Approach

What to Expect

As a Person-Centred counsellor, I willl offer you a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space in which to fully explore your self, your feelings and your relationships.  When a person feels fully received in this way, without fear of shame or rejection, they can begin to unravel some of the complicated feelings that brought them to therapy.

I work with the individual as a person rather than focusing on a particular problem or diagnosis.  As a result my approach is always tailored to your needs rather than  a one size fits all.  The most important factor is always the therapeutic relationship and it's for this reason that the initial consultation includes working out if we are a good fit.

I believe that people are not broken; we simply adapt to survive.  Sometimes these hidden adaptations become hindrances in our lives, and that is what therapy works to uncover.  When we know ourselves more fully, we are in a better position to make choices for ourselves and our lives.

Coming for counselling for the first time can feel daunting.  It is important to know that we will always work at your pace, and in a way that respects your autonomy.

Our first session will be an opportunity to discuss your reasons for coming to therapy, and what you are hoping for from the process.  We will go through some initial paperwork and figure out if we are a good fit and can work effectively together.

If you prefer to work online, I will send you a link that takes you directly to an encrypted video call.  There is no need to download software or sign up to a platform.

I am a member of COSCA and abide by their statement of ethics and code of practice.  Part of that is keeping your information safe and confidential.  There are only very limited circumstances where I would consider breaking this confidentiality and this is something we would discuss and agree on before starting work together.
